no replacement

Te Ramaroa Marae..."The Guiding Light," its intent is not to replace your turangawaewae, your marae at home, but it will be a place for our people to share whanaungatanga, kotahitanga, a dignified place for our customs and beliefs to be shared and practiced, a dignified place for whanau gatherings such as tangi, hui ora, wananga, reo.

name-changed
BUT NOT THE MISSION
After many meetings and hours of work Te Ramaroa Marae Inc. is now known as Maumahara Ki Te Ramaroa Marae Inc. With the great support of Te Runanga o Nga Puhi and consultation with many koroua and kuia the name change has been done and we are looking forward to an even brighter future.

Special Mention

Maumahara ki Te Ramaroa Marae Inc. got a special mention in the 'Regional Development Australia Logan & Redlands Inc' October 2011 Newsletter. Special mention to Kui Lee Henry and the 'nannies' for all their effort in making a difference in a unique positive Maori way. The write up was small but as we say, "he iti, he pounamu." Mauri ora whaea!

usb kete"The Regional Roadmap was distributed to launch attendees on USB sticks; these came in small decorative Maori bags provided by non-profit organisation Maumahara Ki Te Ramaroa Marae Inc. This group was formed in 2010 to establish a "Marae" in South- East Queensland. In Maori society, the Marae is a place where culture, traditions, beliefs and customs are celebrated, main- tained, explored, debated and affirmed; our local Marae is expected to become part of the Queensland tourism experience."

Nanny Lorrie

LorrieLorrie has lived in Australia for over 25years and has played an important role in the community as an Elder, Mentor and confidante for the people. Lorrie is a native speaker of Maori and also speaks Tongan through her marriage to Manase Faka’osilea. The years have gone by quickly with many groups trying to start up Marae Funds only to fall by the wayside on all occasions.   Lorrie feels that Te Ramaroa Marae headed by Don and Julie Rewita will eventuate and as a Cultural Consultant for the group, she knows that this time the dream will be achieved. However as in all matters of this type, it is only with the support of the people that the dream can be realised.

How Te Ramaroa Marae Inc. got it's name...

Welcome to Te Ramaroa Marae!

Te Ramaroa Marae Inc.  is a non-profit organisation formed January 2010  to establish a Marae here in South East Queensland.

In Maori society, the marae is a place where Culture, Traditions, Beliefs and Customs are celebrated, maintained, explored, debated, and affirmed.  It's a place where  our Maori language is embraced, spoken, taught, and learnt.  A place where intertribal discussions are held, and obligations are met,  Our Marae is a place to host, and welcome visitors, a place where we learn and teach  the etiquettes, values and protocols of our Culture.  The marae is  a place for farewelling our loved ones through the sacred practise of  (tangihanga), and  like the institutes of old Polynesia – the marae is a waahi tapu; a “sacred place” that carries the Spirit, and the Mana of our Ancestors, and has great spiritual and Cultural significance.

The objectives of Te Ramaroa Marae Inc. are to bring people together to share, to enjoy, to host, and to learn about Maori through participation, observation, and integration at the Marae. It will be a place where people can give expression to their language, culture, traditions and beliefs. It will become a vibrant hub where all networks can source all basic services and information. The Marae will become a part of the greater QueenslandTourism experience.
