Special Mention
Maumahara ki Te Ramaroa Marae Inc. got a special mention in the 'Regional Development Australia Logan & Redlands Inc' October 2011 Newsletter. Special mention to Kui Lee Henry and the 'nannies' for all their effort in making a difference in a unique positive Maori way. The write up was small but as we say, "he iti, he pounamu." Mauri ora whaea!
"The Regional Roadmap was distributed to launch attendees on USB sticks; these came in small decorative Maori bags provided by non-profit organisation Maumahara Ki Te Ramaroa Marae Inc. This group was formed in 2010 to establish a "Marae" in South- East Queensland. In Maori society, the Marae is a place where culture, traditions, beliefs and customs are celebrated, main- tained, explored, debated and affirmed; our local Marae is expected to become part of the Queensland tourism experience."

Lorrie has lived in Australia for over 25years and has played an important role in the community as an Elder, Mentor and confidante for the people. Lorrie is a native speaker of Maori and also speaks Tongan through her marriage to Manase Faka’osilea. The years have gone by quickly with many groups trying to start up Marae Funds only to fall by the wayside on all occasions. Lorrie feels that Te Ramaroa Marae headed by Don and Julie Rewita will eventuate and as a Cultural Consultant for the group, she knows that this time the dream will be achieved. However as in all matters of this type, it is only with the support of the people that the dream can be realised.
